Scilab Hackathon

Participating in the Scilab Case Study Hackathon 2025 was a rewarding experience. The Scilab Case Study Hackathon was a fantastic platform, offering diverse problem domains and encouraging deep engagement with research papers. During this, I have gained hands-on experience implementing algorithms, which deepened my practical understanding. The event challenged me to think creatively and solve problems efficiently under time constraints. It was an enriching experience, and I eagerly look forward to future editions!. Also, I highly recommend Scilab for scientific computing and encourage others to explore its potential in hackathons and beyond.

I had the opportunity to participate in the Scilab Case Study Hackathon held between December 2024 and February 2025. During the event, I worked on an AI-based hyperparameter optimization project that involved implementing advanced optimization techniques into the Scilab environment. My approach focused on adapting and implementing key mathematical formulations derived from recent research papers. This experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of Scilab as a powerful open-source computational platform and apply AI concepts in a practical setting. It was both a challenging and enriching journey that strengthened my technical skills and helped me understand the real-world problem-solving using scientific computing tools.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to FOSSEE for organizing numerous opportunities that promote the utilization of open-source software. The Scilab Case Study Hackathon 2025 was a fascinating event as it offered a diverse range of areas to explore from. It also encouraged participants to study research papers in order to select their problem statement. I chose to focus on optimization problems, and the process of implementing various algorithms significantly enhanced my understanding of their applications. The hackathon fostered creative thinking and problem-solving under time constraints. This experience has been remarkable and I look forward to participating in similar events in the future.

The hackathon provided a great opportunity to showcase our creativity and problem-solving skills. Even though, Scilab was a new tool for me, but the guidance and resources on the website were super helpful! I enjoyed collaborating with like-minded individuals and appreciated the feedback from the judges. Winning the consolation prize with a cash award of ₹2,500 was a great motivator. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience that helped me grow both technically and personally.
